Chelsea show interest in Arsenal transfer target Shkodran Mustafi
Chelsea have reportedly joined the running to seal the transfer of
£25million-rated Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi ahead of rivals
Arsenal. The Germany international is attracting plenty of interest this
summer after some strong form in La Liga, and could do a job for the
Blues as they search for another centre-back.
New manager Antonio Conte has been unsuccessful in attempts to bring in the likes of Kostas Manolas and Leonardo Bonucci so far this summer, and has added Mustafi to his list of options, according to the Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old is rumoured to have been approached by Arsenal, though it remains to be seen if a deal can be struck in what is proving to be another frustrating summer for the Gunners.
Chelsea beating them to Mustafi would be really rubbing salt into the wound for fans at the Emirates Stadium, who have become increasingly critical of the club’s transfer policy in recent times.
Arsenal failed to sign a single outfield player last summer, and have only spent big on midfielder Granit Xhaka this year, though a defender is now a priority after Per Mertesacker’s injury.
